We definitely need choice, but we need to think beyond the “norm” to be truly inclusive.oselandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02743879390466432468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2443025936337736929.post-41348379120382992662018-05-22T08:45:13.385+01:002018-05-22T08:45:13.385+01:00Thanks Brian. I agree it needs to be integral at the start of the design process, not a bolt on after-thought.oselandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02743879390466432468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2443025936337736929.post-11376405792004908012018-05-21T14:47:31.109+01:002018-05-21T14:47:31.109+01:00I suggest a practical way forward would be:

Offer a variety of types of workplace, each optimized for a different type of knowledge work. Give people the confidence to choose the workplace to suit their task of the moment.
3. Monitor what gets used. Remove settings with low usage, add setting whenever there is a danger of people not being able to get what they want/need.

My experience is that this model levels out at about 100SQFT NUA per person, which is not crazy expensive.
Roland Openshawhttp://innovationplaces.co/about/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2443025936337736929.post-82672837931132705022018-05-21T12:44:04.489+01:002018-05-21T12:44:04.489+01:00Nigel: Congratulations on expanding the reach of W...Nigel: Congratulations on expanding the reach of Workplace Trends. Good content in this post, thank you. I am particularly happy to see the concept of universal / inclusive design addressed. In fact, using the principles of universal design frequently generate design which is better for everyone, not just one specific group. Too many designers address this issue by making their designs 'wheelchair' compliant without considering the multiple spectrum of abilities across all people.
